Montecristo Open Master

Guys, even though it is 04/01... this review is NO April Fool's joke.... it's really serious. And yes, this cigar is said to come from Cuba.

I got this cigar a long time back, it was handed out at the Festival back in 2008. In the meantime I tried 2 more of this to give them a try, but my impressions didn't change. I also made a blind tasting with a bunch of guys and we found out that those are very inconsistent. It can be very strong, but it can also be crap. I always picked up the crap... The report about the blind tasting can be found here.

Before I start with any details let me give you a short summary of the smoke: it was like a warm wind blowing through the wonderful valleys of Switzerland! (Thanks to Matt for this inspiration!!) STOP!! If I take a deep breath of this wind, there'll be more flavor!

The optical impression was good.... fine colorado-colored wrapper, without any irregulations. The green band... ok, no comment.

First odors of the cold cigar are like hay, hints of tobacco... no ammonia.

So I lighted it up and the first puff was.... hey man!! That's a fake! This is NO CUBAN, it is a DOM REP!! A taste of hay and grass comes to my palate, some hints of wood in the background

The second third continued with this basic grass tone, some sweetness of honey comes through and then it went over to the beloved flavor of wet card box which I like so much.

The last third brought some change... from wet cardbox to wet grass... it got harsh and don't blame me for that but this time I didn't nub it down! But to earn at least a little respect I smoked it for 55 minutes!
