06/28 - Michael Mittermeier in Zurich


Yesterday evening we went to Zurich to see the show of Michael Mittermeier, a German - or should I better say: Bavarian - comedian...

We saw him years ago during his "Paranoid"-Tour which's absolutely awesome... we laughed our asses off... so the expectations were high... maybe too high.

The program was not bad, don't get me wrong, but what I saw better shows before... maybe I don't get all those baby-jokes... hahaha

06/25 - Great neighborhood


Planned for a long while it ended up that only 3 of 7 parties of our apartment house joined us for this lil party... so we decided a few days before also to invite the neighbors from the house behind... and all ended up in a fantastic event...

All of us brought some stuff with us, so we'd different salads, bread, soft drinks, beer, wine.... everything you need....

Roger got the new beer from the Sonnenbräu Brewery, a dark ale... very nice and enjoyable beer...

Tom felt a little bit sick (his voice sounded like 3 hard nights... or a really bad cough... lol) but it was too funny to go to bed... so some took care of him... brought him a coat that he doesn't freeze and helped him drinkin....

I smoked some nice cigars durin the evening... and helped the guys to smoke something else when Stefano brought a Shisha later at night...



We talked, laughed and talked and laughed... and out of a sudden the daybreak started... in the gray of the daybreak Roger and myself walked to Tom's house and grabbed the lil wading pool from his garden... filled it (thx to the ladies for the hot water support) and jumped in... it's funny to hear Tom's comment when he saw us lying there in the water when he came out of his bedroom at 8.30 am on Sunday morning...

Guys this was an awesome experience... I'm glad that we shared it together and I'm lookin forward to the next crazy night in Balgach... it's a fantastic neighborhood that we've here...

Upmann Amatista 2000


This cigar has a RG of 40 and a length of 140 mm. The wrapper is colorado colored, fine and matt. Not box pressed at all, filled uniformly but rolled very tight (due to this I rolled the cigar between the table plate and my hand to improve the draw a lil bit).

The smell of the cold cigar is very decent and shows hints of tobacco and fresh milled black pepper.

I took my time to light it up very carefully, cutted it and took the first puff... ok, I tried to... haha... Draw was very tight, but it was smokeable (after the half of the cigar it opened a bit more).

Fresh milled black pepper like I recognized in the cold smell was on of the main aromas which came to my palate. Paired with an intensive taste of tar which switched over to coffee after a while (so it matched perfect with my Latte Macchiatto).

The peppery flavors faded away and the second third was a mixture of milk chocolate and oak wood, good balanced and very tasty.

The last third was again a combination of pepper, some (undefined) spiceyness and fresh roasted coffee. On the last inch it got bitter which was for sure due to the tight draw.

Nevertheless this was a really tasty cigar.......

Some more Belgian beer...


A while ago I tried some more Belgian beers which I picked up in a local supermarket here in Switzerland...

Leffe Vieille Cuvée

Very intensive malty aromas, sweetness and some hints of bitterness in the end. It's characterized by a mild but pronounced taste of raisins, some kinda spices and decent taste of grapes. It's very creamy and smooth in the mouth.

In the aftertaste you get some notes of toffee and caramell... definitely a dessert beer but in this case the beer itself is the dessert.

Bottled with an alcohol level of 8.2 %.

Chimay Tripel

Blond, a bit somber... and bitter-sweet....

This beer has an interesting smell of marzipan and tropical fruits... and you also get it when you take the first sip... but there's also some bitterness in the background... yeasty... but also some kinda orange-like... hard to describe.

Creamy in the mouth it gives you the impression that you can chew it in the mouth...

For the Chimays that I know the "Best before" date is 5 years after the bottling date... which would mean for this that it's been bottled in 2007...



Grimbergen Tripel

Hops, yeast and some decent fruityness... that's the smell of this beer which has an ABV of 9 %. The foam is very creamy, the taste recent with some bitter notes and fruityness in a nice interaction. A good beer but in the end it's just a good Pilsner with a very pleasant creamyness.



Leffe 9°

9.0 % alcohol...another heavyweight... Smell of almond and nuts. First sip is really malty, full bodied, some caramel and suprisingly the alcohol is not in the foreground. Decent bitterness in the end and very creamy... a good beer which'll go well with a cigar.



Hoegaarden Witbier

Yellow and somber, citrus aroma in the foreground, decent taste of wheat malt. A light and refreshing beer... bottled @ 4.9 %.



Duvel

Slightly somber in the glass... very stable foam... decent fruityness in the beginning, very creamy, later mouthdrying and some bitterness of a Pilsner. Not too bad, but I'd better ones before...



Pecheresse - a sticky fruit juice

I bought this bottle by mistake, I know that no excuse, but believe me, it was a punishment to drink it! Nothin in common with any beer I had before. It's sweet, sticky and more like a peach juice. This one is a lambic, where they put fruits (in this case peaches) together with the beer into oak casks for the maturation... Let's say: a once in a lifetime experience...




Satan Gold - a devilish beverage

Ok, let's try the drink of Satan... slightly somber, nice yellow-golden in the glass. Malty in the nose, hints of marzipan. Mild and sweet at the palate, hop, apricot and some spices (coriander?). You don't feel the alcohol which is at 8 % in this case...



Westmalle Tripel - blond beer reloaded

Yellow gold color, a little bit somber... pleasant fruity smell of apricots and peach. The first sip brings an intensive taste of malt and yeast, very well balanced... decent fruity notes of apricot, orange, exotical fruits and some spices. A very nice Tripel.... it's bottled with an alcohol level of 9.5%.

La Corona Corona 1996


Relatively light colorado colored wrapper, a bit rough and matt... not really a beauty that you have in front of you after removing the cellophane. A decent, pleasant smell comes to the nose: oak wood, leather, hints of black pepper....

The olfactics flavors that I noticed from the cold cigar I can find also in the first third, the wood vanishes away after a short time and gives way to a subliminal taste of tobacco, which will last very concise over the whole smoke. An intensive start, a good meal before makes really sense in this case.

Pepper gets more intensive during the second third, distinctive notes of fresh roasted accrue to profile.... some hints of leather come up from time to time... an impressing and tasty interaction.

The big finale in the last third: dark chocolate, pepper, tobacco and the always upcoming oak wood that I had in the beginning set up an incredible harmony which makes it hard to put the cigar to the ashtray after a smoking time of a bit more than 90 minutes.

"Ideal compagnion" to an espresso after the dinner, amazing powerful and very intense flavor.

Very good smoke in the cheap....

06/16 - After work smoke in Bad Ragaz


Another evening when I met with Marc and some other guys...

After some excellent food in the Mediterranean restaurant we changed the location and took our seats in the Salon Davidoff to smoke some good cigars.

Due to the fact that the Canadian Regional Edition from 2010 didn't sell well over there, Intertabak got a bunch of boxes and so did Marc... we smoked the Ramon Allones Gorditos de Allones... tasting young, of course, but a cigar with a good potential....

Aberlour "In the pink" 1989


Nose: Decent smell of exotic fruits, solvent (surprising due to "only" 46 %), fresh cut grass

Taste: Oak wood, citrus, slightly mouthdrying, tannin, some liquorice

Aftertaste: Surprisingly long, getting a bit sweeter than the first mouthfeel, oak wood...

06/06 - 06/08 - Summer School in Avignon


Avignon, the city in the south of France where the Pope lived for a few years back in medieval times (1309 - 1423).

For me it was the place where a training in ultrasound and microwave took place, the Summer School in Avignon. Back to school for 3 days... I don't wanna bore you with the stuff I heard all day long (it's very interesting for me) but show you some pix that I made when walkin around in this historic city after school was over...





My hotel's directly located at the Palais des Papes, the residence I mentioned above. An impressing building... as all buildings the Catholic Church ever built.

Another attraction is the famous bridge of Avignon, the Pont St. Bénézet... it's just half way over the Rhône, the rest has been damaged by wars and floods.





I found a good place to have dinner in the evening... easy thing cuz there a dozen of restaurants and the stuff I saw there looked really good...





On the last evening of the session we'd a nice dinner on a boat which was drivin on the Rhône, another experience that you've not every day...

Bacon Explosion


Another thing I made the first time... Bacon Explosion... on the whole 2.4 kg of meat and bacon... definetely no vegetarian stuff... hahaha

I put it on the grill (indirect heating) for approximately 3 hours... the smell was incredible but the taste was even better... WOW!!!

Everybody who knows it, knows what I'm talkin about... all other should try it on their own.... it's really AWESOME...

We'll make it again this summer, that's for sure...
