04/28 - Whiskyfair 2012

It's already one year ago that we visited the Whiskyfair in Limburg... this year I made the trip on my own... beautiful weather and pleasant temperatures in the morning, it's a perfect day.

The way from the parking garage to the hall leads through the old part of Limburg... half-timber houses, narrow streets....

Limburg - a really nice place

This year I was really early and due to this I was very close to the entrance while the people arrived and formed a long queue in front of the entrance... waiting for the inlet. It was planned to met there with Manfred, later on we met two other friends who I haven´t seen now for a while... it's nice to meet the people, have fun together, exchange about all that whisky stuff...

The crowd waiting for the doors to be opened

Everybody who's been there knows the special atmosphere of this event... it's getting bigger and bigger but it never lost its familiar character... a lot of small vendors with rarities and specialties... definitely heaven for any whiskylover...

I'd the chance to try some really nice whiskys... old Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Highland Park, Port Ellen, Caol Ila... and some more... a long list with absolutely outstanding stuff...

I think it's enough said, enjoy the pix to get an impression of this fantastic event... I'll be back in 2013!

04/22 - Hoher Hirschberg

A beautiful day... and I went out to make a tour to the Hohe Hirschberg... a place with a beautiful view on the Saentis region on one hand and the Rhine valley on the other hand...

I started my tour in Gais... no people on the streets but a few cats crossing my way...

After leaving the village and going uphill through the forrest a great view welcomed me...really impressing... the whole mountain chain of the Saentis is in front of me...

After a while I reached the guesthouse "Hoher Hirschberg". Normally the terrace here would be a great place for something to eat, smoke and enjoy the view but it was a bit windy... and this wind was too chilly to enjoy it... so I continued my walk...

A reached a nice spot in the forrest - no wind, some tree stumps where you could take a seat. The perfect place to pour in a glass of whisky, an Ardbeg Uigeadail from 2003 in this case, and to fire up a Romeo y Julieta Cazadores from 1996. Awesome... sitting somewhere in the forrest, drinking a great Single Malt in combination with a really fantastic cigar while the birds were twittering in the trees... what else to ask for...

04/21 - Cognac day

One week after the "Day of rum" there´s another event at Moses in Dornbirn: Cognac day.

Ok, noe clue of cognac so I took the chance to go there and try some of that stuff...

Before I entered the shop I walked over the nice market which´s there every Saturday and took a few snapshots...

As last week a little corner was prepared for the Cognac event and short past ten Christian und Gerald Wolf (Cognaisseur - Cognacs & Weinbrände für Kenner und Geniesser) arrived who presented the spirit... an interesting range from bloomy to fruity to woody and spicy... pleasant to drink, a nice diversion but not convincing, somehow too smooth for my liking... I´ll still stick to Scotch Single Malt...

Thx to Harald and his team to organize such kinda event... see you at the Rye and Bourbon Day in May...
