05/12 - Rye- and Bourbon-Day

The third event within 4 weeks at the really nice shop in Dornbirn...  if you´re in the area you´ve to check it out: www.moses-kostbar.at. This time it´s all about Bourbon and Rye... the American Whiskeys.

As many of my readers know those are not among my favorites, but it´s another possibility to try some stuff that you normally wouldn´t try...

I´d some nice surprises... I absolutely dislike this overwhelming sweetness of most Bourbons but I´d some which were definitely not sweet and had some more character and edges... a bit like a Single Malt. It was a great experience to try an average whiskey which´s has been bottled app. 20 to 30 years ago: Ezra Brooks Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Nothing special, but not sweet which made it drinkable for me...

In the end I tried more than a handful of those... the special bottling for the European Bourbon and Rye Association (EBRA) was another remarkable one... distilled at Heaven Hill Distillery, 18 yo and bottled with an ABV of 78.1 %...

Unfortunately we didn´t have the time to stay for lunch or the tasting in the afternoon but I enjoyed my time there anyhow...
