Cohiba 1966 EL 2011

After I reviewed the Ramon Allones Allones Extra (http://bit.ly/RAL_EL2011) and Hoyo de Monterrey Short Hoyo Piramide (http://bit.ly/HdM_EL2011), both EL 2011, it's now time to smoke the last one of last year´s Limitadas: the Cohiba 1966.

It's size is unique, called Canonazo Especial, measuring 166 mm / 6.5″ in length with a ring gauge of 52. Dark and smooth wrapper with a decent oily shine with an earthy smell.

The cigar is complex from the start with earth and chocolate being the dominant flavors, some notes of white pepper come up from time to time... surprisingly there´s no ammonia like I heard from some other people.

During the second third the flavors get stronger with aromas of tobacco and wood joining the earthy notes. Another Cobhia which lacks the grassy notes of the Linea Clasica... and that´s good! A very complex smoke so far.

The last third is still influenced by wood, earth and dark chocolate, some hints of dark roasted espresso... a bit mouthdrying at this moment... and getting definitely strong...

The cigar ended up after a smoking time of a bit more that two hours... a very good smoke, perfect draw, great taste... but too high priced in my opinion... but I'm sure it'll be a great stick in a few years...

  1. Nice review H,
I admit that I have tasted ammonia in the 1966 when they first came out.. But that's obviously acceptable. I didnt go back for a resampling because I thought that they still needed time before we start to see their real potential.. However, reading your review may be an indicator that the 1966 is starting to come out from its sleeping phase.. I'll pull one from the humidor and see how these improved..
