Ter Dolen Triple from 1990

I got two bottles of vintage Belgian beer a few months back... one of those was the Ter Dolen Triple which is from 1990. I wasn't sure if it's still ok, even though that it's said it can be stored for decades...

So I opened it on a Sunday morning after breakfast and poured it in... and was surprised in a positive way.... a very pleasant smell of grapes, liquorice... a decent but really pleasant sweetness.

The foam was very low, after this storage time the carbon is very low in the beer... the foam fainted away quickly and left a copper-brown beer with a reddish shine.

I took the first sip and was overwhelmed by the intensive aroma of malt and yeast.... very smooth in the mouth... covering the palate... slightly bitter in the beginning and turning into a Portwine-like fruity sweetness after a while... it's simply amazing... and I´m sure that it has more than 8.1 % like printed on the label... the additional fermentation in the bottle increased the alcohol level for sure.

The taste of the grapy fruityness covers the palate for a long time... it could've been also a Vintage Port that I had in my glass...

It was my first real vintage beer and I definetly enjoyed it... unfortunately those are really hard to find... but maybe I'll be lucky another time again.
