Queenstown round trip

Another trip through the beautiful landscape of New Zealand should bring us to the city of Queenstown and our way to that place was full of some really amazing spots.

I have been at the two Lakes that you will see now here on the pictures during my last trip but it was an experience I'd to share with Tanja during here time here.

We started our trip in the early hours of a Friday morning with a clear sky and a promising forecast with picture perfect weather.

Lake Tekapo had much more water than back in December but unfortunately the color wasn't as impressing as the last time... we stopped there and enjoyed a walk before we continued our way to the Lake Pukaki... a lake with a stunning color... the Mt. Cook in the background made the scenery perfect...

Just around the corner from the lake and on the way further down to Queenstown we stopped in the middle of nowhere to have a look on the Pellenor fields which have been a scenery for the Lord of the Rings... ok, nothing reminds of the movie but maybe I^ll recognize it when watching it again.

Another lake, another stop. Lake Ohau - one of the numerous lakes in New Zealand and especially in this area...

After leaving the Lake Ohau our way lead over the Lindis pass and then along the Wanaka river to Queenstown which is located at another lake... the Lake Wakatipu.

Queenstown as a real tourist center, the heart of the city is the so called Steamer Wharf, a complex of buildings with shops and restaurants... we'd a good dinner there while we enjoyed the view on the lake during the setting of the sun. It's a warm day and still a mild evening, we were in need of some refreshment and so we decided for a visit in the "Minus 5" ice bar. The name is program, the temperature inside was around -5 °C. Everything's made of ice inside: the chairs, the bar, the glasses... a cool experience...

After a night in a room which has been upgraded for whatever reason by the hotel (thx for that) and a beautiful sunrise we drove along the Lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy which is also called the "Gateway to Paradise". The drive took us to a great scenery with the lake and the surrounding mountains and we made our way over several gravel tracks to Isengard. Hrmmm... ok... another spot I wanna verify when I watch the movie again... ;-)

Another stop of this seightseeing trip was in Arrowtown, a town which boomed during the time of the goldrush in that area. One street has been rebuilt based on the look how it was at this time... but to be honest: it looks more like a tourist trap to me than an attraction. The leftovers of the village of the Chinese gold diggers was definitely more interesting and gave you a much better impression of that time.

Additionally we saw some action on the river with speedboats and got another approval of the Kiwi's passion for crazy postboxes...
