Getting into Geuze and Lambics...

Geuze and Lambic... it's another style of Belgian beer, different than the rest, based on a spontaneuos fermentation and also the addition of fruits... after my visit at Cantillon I'm more curious about it and gave it a more intensive try.

Timmerman's Faro Lambicus

The sourness is immediately there, hints of apples and some grain. The sourness doesn't continue too strong in the mouth, it's well compensated by a decent sweetness and also some malty aromas. Otherwise the sweetness is not overwhelming and covering the palate, all in all it's good balanced. The carbonation goes away quickly. An interesting change in taste that I will definitely have again.

Boon Geuze Mariage Parfait 2010

Wow, that's what I call carbonization... the cork pops out like the one of a bottle of Champagne. A decent smell of lemon hits the nose, changing to a pleasant sweetness later and turning a little bit bread-like after a while. At the first sip the sour character is very straight forward, then it mellows down and releases the aroma of lemon with some oakwood tones. There's some sweetness in the background and the carbonization is high all the time.

Foudroyante Gueuze

The smell of Sherry and cider is very surprising. A great combo of flavors which continues in the mouth when hitting the palate... Yes, there's still Cider and Sherry, oakwood notes... a good balance of sour and sweet. A very pleasant and tasty one... I think I chose a good package to start with those beers...

Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René

The look is much closer to a traditional beer than the other ones I had before. Yellowish white with a stable foam, a bit somber after adding the deposit out of the bottle. The smell is full of lemon zest, hay, some vinegar... all that continous in the mouth... sour but very mellow and creamy. Well balanced and tasty...

3 Fonteinen Oude Kriek

Pleasant sweetness of dark cherries in the nose, some oakand decent malty. The flavor is with gentle sour touch combined with sweetness. The cherry flavor is not too strong, a good balance of sour and sweet flavors with a dry finish.

3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze

Yeasty and earthy in the nose combined with some oak and spices. The flavor is the same: yeast, earth, ok and spices with a mild sour finish. Good to drink. I like it!
