Better late than never...

Better late than never... that slogan perfectly matches to that posting.

Here you can find now the reviews of whiskys which we enjoyed during our last tasting. Usually I make this posting before the tasting but this time I wasn't able to post it before as I did the pre-tasting just before the event... there was no time left to make a nice write-up.

We started with some old stuff, for two simple reason:
  • those are less peaty than the newer stuff
  • both are bottled only at 40 %

No. 1, distilled back in 1975 and bottled by Spirit of Scotland in 1997.

Aroma: Passion fruit, peat, some pepper, spices

Taste: Pfepper, decent grassiness, pears

Aftertaste: Grassy notes with a hint of peat

Whisky no. 2 is also distilled in the 70s, in this specific case in 1974, the year of some legendary Ardbegs. 22 yo., bottled G&M for Italy...

Aroma: Oysters, smoke, citrus notes, very subtle and not intrusive

Taste: smoky, seaweed, salt, oysters

Aftertaste: Long and maritim

No we change over to the new generation of Ardbegs, starting with the Committee Release of the Alligator.

Aroma: Seaweed, herbs, some peat, decent notes of orange, liquorice

Taste: Grapefruit, green apples, earthy, liquorice, later some pepper

Aftertaste: Very long with a pronounced aroma of dark chocolate

On we go with the Galileo. I am not a big fan of all that marketing stuff, let's see if the whisky is good....

Aroma: Herbal aroma, tangerine, ripe apples, plum, some vanilla

Taste: Dried fruits, oak wood, relatively dry, cardamom, citrus

Aftertaste: Medium-length with citrus notes and some salt

The next one, a new Ardbeg in the style of the old ones. Another bottling of the Whiskyclub Regensburg, a 21 yo. matured in Sherry casks...

Aroma: Sherry, salt, peat, dark chocolate, orange, herbs, black pepper

Taste: pleasant Sherry sweetness, peat, Espresso, decent woodiness

Aftertaste: Peat with a touch of sweetness

Last but not least: the Corryvreckan, First Release.

Aroma: Pepper, herbs, salt, citrus, peat

Taste: Citrus, salt, peat, herbs, grassy notes, maritim

Aftertaste: Long with peat, citrus and herbs
