Ardbeg 1973, Single Cask, Cask #1143

A very special bottle in my collection. But it was made for drinking, not for staring at it... and it was the right moment to open it right now!

I didn't see much Ardbeg bottling from 1973 in the past and also this original bottling has an interesting story. Cask #1143 itself was stored for a very long time at the Highland Park Distillery and was bought back from Ardbeg before they bottled it in December 2004.

Now some words about this whisky... luckily it's bottled at cask strenght which means 49.3 % in this case... intensive notes of lemon cest, fruity, hints of honey, fresh almonds, smoke and tar... what a mixture... it's very intensive... if some whiskys are a light breeze, this one is a storm...

The first sip... an oily and mouth-coating whisky... wow... what a bomb! Peaty oils, a decent sweetness of honey... citrus notes... barley... smoke... a very complex mixture... espresso coffee, salted liquorice, nutmeg, oaky tones…

The finish is long... very long... with a lot of peat, liquorice and a pinch of salt… Simply awesome...
